The
Internet For Worship Leaders By
Joe Ed Furr The Internet has become a source of much information for people. Even worship leaders can find many resources on the net. In this presentation we would like to introduce some of these resources to you. www.acappella.org and www.zoegroup.faithsite.org are web sites for the Acappella ministry and the Zoe ministry. Beyond these singing groups we found several web sites operated by members of the church of Christ that contains general information for worship leaders. These include www.taylorpublications.com (a source of acappella materials for worship leaders among churches of Christ), www.aworshipleader.org (a source of news and worship programs from various large churches), and www.paperlesshymnal.com (a source of material for the new paperless hymnal project). One web site was a bit deceiving at first glance. It is www.singers.com. This site is entitled “Primarily A Cappella”. This is actually a general supplier of musical for vocal singers. This includes barbershop quartets and secular music. But it does also include acappella church music. www.southerngospelmusic.com has a unique web site. This site contains a “Lorain County Free-Net Chapel”. This is a database of church songs. You can clique on a song listing and the site will play the song for you. The songs are vocal with instrumental accompaniment. The main value such a site would have would be to help a song leader learn to sing a given song. We found several web sites that promote specific products for worship leaders. The following are a few of these sites. First, there is www.easyworship.com. Easy Worship is a computer software package for high tech churches. This software contains its own video slide show software that can import and utilize PowerPoint files. This software contains the Bible in several versions, and it contains the lyrics to more than a thousand songs. It also contains hundreds of paintings and photographs for background. A worship leader can call up a list of scriptures and songs and match them with backgrounds and the software will automatically create a slide show of all this material in the order specified. It does it instantly and beautifully. Second, there is www.worshipmusic.com. This is a product catalog that sells software, videos, CD’s, and printed music. Third, there is www.songdiscovery.com. This site is sponsored by Worship Resource Magazine. It promotes its magazine and related commercial products. Finally, there is www.songbase.com. The Vineyard Christian Fellowship has produced its own database software of church music. The software package is a complex system that is ready for use by worship leaders. However, this package is not as large as, or as expensive as Easy Worship. If you find other web sites you would like to share with others, send us your news notes and web reviews.
